D14 shifter removal

Thanks so much for the great advice. That sure beats splitting the tractor! I tried pulling the cover to which the shifter assembly is attached, and it is not forthcoming (I did remove the shifter first). I tried to peek in there and it appears that the forks seem straight enough, but I can only get it about halfway out.

Any mechanics tips for removing it?

Scott, After you have the shifter handle out, take a screwdriver or something and shift the tranny into reverse. The shifter assembly on the side will then come out if you hold your mouth just right. Might need to put some washers on the rails if its over shifting. Might check for detent wear, wear on the forks, bent forks, and might check the shifter handle ball for wear. As far as the gears ,collars,bearings,and etc. I'd recomend a good manual before you split the tractor. Hope its something simple cause some of that stuff runs high! Dale
