Have WD ser#284316PA which I think is 56yr. Used on museum grounds with loader, no power steering, takes two men and a boy to turn without load in bucket. Any comments to fix steering. Steering gears ave been examined and appear to be in good condition.

The problem is the bottom bearing in the pedistal. Not hard to fix, done one this spring. Take the wheels off ,then bolt in the verry bottom of spindles and the locking screw and nut on the front of spindle. Then take top plate off pull shaft and gear out top. Remove bearing & race out the bottom .

Virgil, what you gave us was the engine serial number. No matter, You still have a WD which was made between 1948 and 1953. The one place I would suggest you look is at the bearings in the pedestal. Jack up the front end and check for up and down play of the axle assembly relative to the pedestal. That setup still won't steer easily, but one guy should be able to do it.
