1000psi acceptable on a B?

I tested my hydraulic pump on my B and it generates a little over 1000psi on the guage. Is that enough pressure for me to put on a 3pt conversion?

Earlier this week, I think it was Steve(Ill) said that when I test it, it should generate about 3000psi.

Please let me know your input. I'd like to know if my pump is working well enough.

Thanks,
Matt

the B and C hydraulics are a low volume high pressure system. they put out 3000 to 3400 psi. if you have 1000 psi you have some internal leakage or full of air. ---- you can take the gauge off the hose we talked about and put the hose in a 2 gallon bucket. start the tractor and at idle, pull the lever and pump hydraulic oil into the bucket. dont worry, as i said, it is low volume. you wil get maybe a 1/2 gallon in a minute. see if it is steady flow and air?? then reinstall the gauge and put the oil back in the sump and try again. if it has not run for a while the pump may need to be "exercised" befor it breaks in.--- or it may have some wear and more problems.--- 1000 psi is a lot of pressure and it will lift the 3 point. the implement weight you can lift will be dependant on the leverage of links and the size (diameter) of the cylinder.

OK, I'll do that. I didn't get a section of hose because TSC different have the necessary pieces/parts to allow me to hook a gauge up to a line. So, I just bought the gauge and screwed it directly into the port. I'll go buy some line though just so I can do what you say and see if there's any air in the system.

As far as when this was last used, I can't say. I've owned the tractor for 3 yrs now and this is the first time I've had the chance to play with the hydraulics. There's just a pump, and thats it. I'm testing it so that I can determine if its in good enough working order to buy a 3pt setup.

While I'm doing this, I'll go ahead and drain out the old oil (still 20W) and refill with the hydr. oil you mentioned in an earlier post.

Thanks again for your help.

Matt
