Found an AC HD5B Crawler that is minus the engine and the only book I have shows only the HD-5. What engine does the 5B model have and can parts be found?

As the other guy mentioned, it has a Detroit Diesel and engine parts are easy to get. As far as the crawler goes, parts are available used, new-old-stock, and new OEM and aftermarket. I've bought a lot from my local Allis Chalmers industrial dealer (now AGCO). HD5s are pretty much the same machines as the later HD6s except the HD6s don't use the Detroit engines - they use the Buda 344 c.i. four cylinder-four-stroke diesel instead.

Thanks! And now to go find the engine. Found the hood and instrument panel but no engine nor radiator yet. However, weeds are head high and like a jungle so I bet they can be found. This guy did this on most older eq. He parked and disassembled to some extent then it sat there for 20-30 years. Even put some parts in a shed-just all over the place.

HD5's had 271 Detroit (2-cycle) engines. Down in the oil patch country, those are pretty common and easy to get. Parts are still available from your Detroit dealer and there are also many aftermarket parts available. Can't speak for the crawler parts themselves with the exception of where we all get our parts--junkyards, other collectors, etc...hope that helps.
