How to test my B hyrdra. pump

Tonight me and my nieghbor did our best at testing my hydraulic pump on my B. All the 2pt assembly is long gone and all thats left if the pump itself and the control lever. A past owner put a plumbing valve in the PLUG A hole (thats what the manual calls it). The other hole/port on top where the hard metal line would come out and go to the selector lever unit has a plug in it.

Now my questions: We simply opened the valve and engaged the PTO and pushed the control lever and out came fluid. It came out faster when the lever was pushed. It slowed when we lifted the lever. Next we took out plug out of the top hole/port and just simply turned on the PTO and oil came out of that too.

My question is, is this a good enough test to see if my hydraulics work? I don't want to buy a 3pt conversion yet til I feel good about my pump.
Next, which hole should I use to hook the hyraulic hose to for my 3pt converson kit? Plug A or the top hole?

buy a hydraulic hose about 2 ft long at the local farm store and a 5000 psi gauge. the cheapest little 2 inch diameter unit is o.k. connect to the top port.---- engage the pto lever, start tractor, then pull up on the hydraulic lever. gauge should go up to 3000 psi, then chatter. let it go and it should stay about that point. push it back down and it woould go back to zero.
