Have D17 AC 196?when operating on hillside wheels make a poping and cracking sound in gear housing. There is no loose motion in bearings. Any info will help ?Thanks Jimbob Allis.

Maybey you can break the locks loose and then retighten them and it will stay quiet

My WD does that once in while when making a corner on a side hill. I think it is the spin out wheels moving around on the rails just a bit. Make sure all the cams are in the locked position.

I agree. Look for rub marks on the rails- even if you have the locks in place, there is some room to move. The cams develop a flat spot over time, once they start to slip. Also, you will see a flat spot on the rails. This does not fix itself- might need to remove the tires, and build up the rails with weld.
