Put used 2nd & 3rd gears (got them from Okie Boy) in and they worked fine until I put it in 3rd & took off with the brakes on without thinking. It jumped out of 3rd & will not stay in 3rd anymore, 2nd gear still works okay. Is it possible that I bent the shifting fork or something? I don't think it's the 3rd gear since it worked before. Anyone have any opinions?

JW,
I think it is probably the fork, but while you have the fork plate out, take a GOOD look at the shift collar and the pinion gear it meshes to. They can get just slight wear on the leading edges and not want to stay in gear. You may have knocked off the last little bit that kept it in. But I would believe it to be the fork first. Good luck!
