I just purchased a 1969 AC 180 diesel. I hooked it up to a brush hog and the lever to the left of the steering wheel jumps in and out of gear. I also was told unit had live power but when I push in the clutch everything stops. Is that normal? I am not a tractor expert but was told by seller shaft would continue to turn even with clutch pushed in. Also is there an adjustment for the pto lever? Thank you,Dan

Since the pto clutch is after the main clutch ; the PTO does stop turning every time you push in the foot clutch. You have live power by using the power director clutch( high low lever by the throttle lever).You just put it in neutral to stop the tractor and not the pto! You push down the foot clutch to stop both PTO and wheels from turning. Also do you have to push clutch down to engage PTO? If you do have to disengage foot clutch ... you don"t have a hydraulic pto clutch either? I need to know this before telling you how to fix pto from jumping out. It sounds like you have the mechanical pto.. later Gary

Nope, it's not normal for the lever to jump out of gear. I don't know how to fix it, but a friend of mine has an XT 190 with the same problem and he just tied an old bicycle inner tube to the hand hold on the side of the instrument panel and loops it over the pto lever when he needs it to stay in gear for longer than he wants to hold it there. On the other question, use the power range lever on the right (high/neutral/low) to use pto while not moving. my .05 cents
