The serial number on a D-19 is just behind the engine on the left side, on the front of the torque housing. 1961 starts with 1001, 1962 starts with 1250 and 1963 starts with 12001. Giving a value, sight unseen and without a detailed description of condition is usually pretty difficult, so many things to factor in. Working condition is a pretty wide area. I"m a little bit older than your D-19 and I"m still in working condition, but not the working condition I was in 25 years ago. With a D-19 it is a little easier than with some other models where there are more variables. Yes a D-19 can be gas or diesel, wide front or narrow, high crop or standard or even beach model, but most are just regular everyday farm tractors. I would say the one factor that would be most likely to affect price is if the tractor was a factory 3 point hitch model, or the more common snap coupler or SC with a 3 point conversion. That all said, I"ve seen several "right off the farm" D-19"s sell in the last couple of years at auction. And yes I"ve bought and sold some myself. $2,000. is about what the average one sells for. I"ve seen them advertized for twice that, but that is not where they sell. Those people either keep the tractor or reduce the price a lot to sell it. I will be the very first to admit that this is VERY cheap for a tractor the size of the D-19. I can"t really explain why this is where there value is, other than to say that if I hear a bad comment about them, it almost always deals with fuel economy. Lots of people seem to think they are gas hogs. They do burn more gas than the 4 cylinder tractors, but so does everyone elses 6 cylinder models, they have to in order to produce the horsepower they put out. It is my opinion that the D-19 is a very good tractor. In many ways it"s equal to or better than the JD 4010 and 4020 models which sell for upwards of $10,000. in good working condition. The D-19 just isn"t that popular. It can be a fantastic deal if you are buying horsepower, but a real heartbreaker if you are selling and don"t know the market.
