left hand question

I got my AC66 combine out today to get ready to cut some oats and got to wondering by AC implements are left side cut. My Dad had an AC chopper and it seems like I've seen a left side AC baler. Did they switch to the right side before AC was bought?

I grew up with a 66 combine and a WC. It just seems normal to me...look back over your left shoulder and steer with your right hand. After 66 combine I went to 12 foot Baldwin, all so on the left.

Pat's explanation is correct. The Roto-Baler, 60, 66, 72, etc. combines were also left-hand. Other mfrs also made left hand cut- IH grain binder, various swathers, I think early JD combines as well. AC also made a straight-through design combine before the 60 came out, with the 90 degree crop flow design.

To the best of my knowledge and others please correct me if Im wrong,At the time the implements described wer being designed they were designed to run specifically with the current WC tractor which had the offset seat design.I beleive they were designed from an ergonomic standpoint of operator in relation to the machine.I know there are other factors involved but I think that may be the closest to answering your question.By the way I grew up running a 60 and a 66 and to me they were the best combine ever built,for pull types anyway.
