Got the book "Original ALLIS-CHALMERS 1933-1957" by Guy Fay/Andy Kraushaar. It states the "Allis-Chalmers" decal (long A&S) was BLUE until 1944. Other sources say it changed to BLACK in late 1940. Mine is a late 40, so I'm real curious as to which color goes on it. Oh yeah, it's a "B".

I restored a 1951 WD a few years ago and went through this crap. I researched the HECK out of this question, and concluded that the long A&S letters were used until mid-1951. As near as I can tell the blue letters w/border were used until mid-1949, the black letters w/border were used until mid-1951, then in mid-1951 they went to equal-height black letters w/border. I am no authority on this, I assure you, but that is how it appears to me. Hope I didn't muddy the waters further. I'd use the blue letters w/border.
