Actually, the Series II D15 does have the full flow oil system and uses the filter like the newer D17's. For oil, try either straight 30, 10W30 or even 15W-40. We have an older D17 with the bypass system that maintains better pressure with the 15W40 than the other viscocities.

Lee, the "OLD" allis motors from the 1940-50 era used an oil filter that was "stuffed rag" design and screwed onto a mason jar size filter housing. there was a 1/4 inch steel tube up the cneter of the filter. the system took 15% of the oil from the pump and put thru the filter and back to sump. only 85% of the oil was used by the motor. After 1960 the motors started to change design and the D17 later versions had a pressureized system that used a FORD car filter (fram PH8). Dont quote me, but i dont think the 149 inch motors (D15) ever got the change. Look at your fitler, or remove it and look inside. If it has a 2 or 3 inch diameter thread connection, i would guess someone put on a bad filter that has too little restriction and lets too much flow thru the filter to sump and not enough to the bearings. these systems only run about 12-15 psi pressure. Get a good filter with "rags" inside, not paper pleated material and try that. If your filter head has a 3/4 or 1 inch fine thread bolt type screw on fitting (FORD) then that is a different setup. I would be curious in what you have (filter design).. there are a few manufacturers of the OLD STYLE filter that are not made correctly.
