Also, make sure your Hydro is in the Neutral position. These tractors have another safety switch requiring the Hydro to be in Neutral before turning over engine. If your Hydro Lever is out of adjustment, it may help to wiggle the lever back and forth, with key in start position, to see if this safety switch is causing your lack of starter engagement.

I was reminded of this lesson just today in the shop. Mowed the lawn yesterday, parked 720 in the shop. Today, hopped aboard to just move tractor around shop, turn key, no start. Hmmmm, me thinks, must have left something on and ran battery down. Put charger on battery for about 2 minutes before I notice Hydro Lever had been bumped into the Reverse position somehow. Started tractor right up, no need for charge.

Good Luck with it!

Sean

If I remember right, mine had two pto switches (for front and rear pto) to the left of the steering wheel. For safety, they had to be in the "off" position to allow current to flow to the starter solenoid but the rivets holding the terminals to the back of the switches were a little loose. I discovered that by holding the key switch in start position while flipping those switches until they made contact, it triggered the solenoid. If this works for you, look for a bad connection there. A test light may help find it quickly.
