I am wanting to know if using 80/90wt gear lube in the transmission on a model c will harm the hydraulic pump.I am not using the pto or the pump as all i do is drive the tractor for enjoyment. The reason for wanting heavier oil is to try to quiet the transmission down a little.I had it out on the road in third gear and started out pretty quiet and as it warmed up it got a lot louder.Any suggestions would be great thankyou

The heavy oil won't work well at all in the hydraulic pump. If you never put the PTO in gear, then I guess it wouldn't hurt anything, but I'd recommend a universal trans-hydraulic oil that you can buy at any farm equipment store and even at Wal-Mart (at least in rural areas). It will give the transmission all the protection it needs plus will work great in the hydraulics when you when you want to use it (and someday you will want to use it!)
