i managed to clean all the rust & paint from the serial number on the transmission case the number is EB5464? is this 1938? the gear shift lever will move sideways very free & also will rotate completely, but it will not move front to rear, is this a known problem or should i buy it and take pot luck! the clutch will disengage to allow the engine to turn

the "E" in the serial number and the motor number must be "English". with that, i dont know if the serial numbers align with the USA list or not, but i suspect you are close 1938-1940 it is. side movement on the lever is neutral. if it wont go into any of the gears, then i suspect one fork is bent, or the slide on the shaft is rusted to the shaft. on the right side of transmission just down fromt he shift lever is a 6 inch diameter plate. got 4 screws attaching it. pull the cover off, the forks are mounted to the plate. try to slide the gears with the cover off, examine the forks to see if they are bent, etc. dont sound like a real big problem. they are not outrageously $$ to overhaul.

sorry for not giving enough info. my dad says it has not got any c channel around engine & it is a model B he said that i also better tell you we are located in England. the air cleaner housing is located up under the bonnet housing & not on top or at the side i hope this helps. I am going to see it again tommorow i will try to see serial on transmission housing. it is also stuck in first gear i hope this is not too serious

if it is stuck in gear, you can push in the clutch and the motor can be cranked by another person? if you can move the shift lever, but clutch will not release, it might be oil soaked main clutch plate. would be a good idea to pull the 1/2 inch plug below the transmission and get a liter of the goo out and see if it is full of water, or thick crud, etc. might help diagnose a problem. there are 3 pipe plugs ont he bottom, transmission, bevel gear, and pto. all share the same 7 liter oil sump.

what size rear tires does it have , 24 or 28 inch? is there a c-channel frame around the motor and radiator that reaches from both final drive housings? is it a narrow front end or wide axle?

rear tyres are 24 inch
front axle is beam that is adjustable width, tractor is not fitted with any electrics other than magneto. starting handle only. i did not notice about the channel frame. The number ECE2486K was actually stamped on engine left side from rear back casting. tractor has bench type seat, pto shaft & rear pulley no hydraulics and no 3 point linkage.I dont own this i need info before i buy it
