Ok, I'm a new kid (older kid)on the block here, and I have a 1945 C. I want to know what the HP rating is on this tractor and if it can pull a 6' tandem disc (600 lbs), and a 14" two bottom plow. I have a 8 acre track that I want to put in sweet corn and some other produce, and if this tractor is not big enough for the chore what size would I need? I'm on a low budget so...figure from that. Any and all help will be appreciated. I grew up on a cotton farm is SE Missouri but was 10 when we moved to town, so I know a little... but that's it.

Thanks,

Ron

Thanks a lot for the info on my C. The motor was rebuilt about 6 years ago and has very few hours on it. The current condition of the 8 acres is that is has been in broam (recently cut and rolled)for about 30 years. The previous owner told me that I may want to spray it with round-up then plow it in the fall...then come back in early spring and spray it again with round-up then disc it. I was concerned that my C may have a tough time plowing this with the 2-14" plows...just didn't want to over heat the motor, but if this C has the ump then there should be no problem. More thoughts/advice on this are welcome

MY BOOK STATES HP AT 18.43 ON THE DRAWBAR. WILL PULL 2-14"S AND 7" DISK WITH NO PROBLEM WITH WEIGHT IN THE TIRES. SHOULD HANDLE 8" OK TOO. BOB

The AC model C was rated at 12.6 HP at the drawbar and 18.8 HP at the PTO. That was when they were new, they may or may not produce that much HP 60 some years later. I would think a good running C could do fine on your acreage. To say for certain that it will pull any particular implement is difficult. Standard plows range in cut from 12" to 18" per bottom and also pull differently depending on several other factors. Of course soils differ widely also. Disk designs make some difference within the same width range too. You may find you have exactly the right equipment for your C or over time you may find you need something slightly different. In any case, I think you'll like your C, but who knows you might like a WD even better. Keep it orange and you won't go too far wrong.

Dad farmed 148 acres in the late 1940's with a C and pulled a 2- 14 JD pull type plow and fit ground with an eight foot Oliver disk. It was weighted to the gills to hold traction. Power was there, but you couldn't set the disk at its fullest/deepest setting. Pulled a packer some times behind the disk but disk had to be set light. He followed the disk with a packer eight foot with a spring tooth drag behind it when conditions called for it.
Sssoooo the short answer would yup if you do it right. Probly be best to use a one bottom plow and not have all the weight. Could be a mounted two bottom would pull easyer than a pull type as far as traction.
