Hello i stumbled upon something today i have never seen before. I own an allis E 25-40 im in the process of restoring and i was looking at this guys stuff and he showed me these two power plants he has i got in the shed and there sat two power plants on skids they look just like the engine in my e but both of these have starters and generators on them. I was wondering how common these were and how much they may be worth neither one is stuck and one is complete with an odd looking manifold and the other is missing the carb. Both have side shiels and the fuel tanks are there any serial # lists for these>? Thank you very much for your time.

There were two E series power units. The E60 had 5.25 bore and was rated @ 60 HP. The E50 was 4.75 bore and rated at 50 hp. There was also a letr version that I think was called an E563 that put out 74 HP.

Forgot to answer your question regarding the number made. As far as I know, Allis didn't keep records of production numbers on power units. By the way, the E60 was originally just called the model E so you may hear both used to describe the same unit. The E563 was just an E60 (5.25 bore and 6.5 stroke thus 563 cu. in.) with a higher compression ratio and a higher RPM of 1,050 vs the earlier versions which ran at 1,000. The engine serial number should have a letter that will help you ID the compression ratio. K=4.0:1, G=4.4:1, A=5.2, and B=6.0 The K & A were distillate , the G&B gasoline. I've also heard of units that ran on diesel fuel but had to be ignited by a spark plug because of low compression. I've never seen one but perhaps that's the one with the wierd manifold. Check if it has injectors. That could be a rare one. Depending on the application, many of the power units had very few work hours so they are often in good shape. For example, the B-15 and B-125 power units were often auxiliary power on combines and forage blowers so they didn't get much run time. On the other hand, carnivals loved these units and those got a ton of run time. Anyway, I'd buy the units if the price is right. Good luck.
