I am in the process of restoring a 37 WC .I have rebuilt the motor and had it running,the problem is I can't get it started by cranking it by hand.To get it started I use another tractor with a belt.The mag has new points& condensor,new plug wires.Is it possible the coil is a little weak & when I use the belt I have enough RPM's to get it going?Getting frustrated, thinking about switching to electronic ignition.Any input would be appreciated!

Keep it original. A properly set up WC should
start easily with the crank.
Heck, my grandmother started one by hand quite often in the 30's and 40's along with a W-40
Mcormick-Deering.
Try getting a yuppie housewife to do that today!

Keep it original, skip the electronic stuff. Was at the Orange Spectacular in Hutchinson today, watched one guy start his '37. Took 8-10 lazy pull-ups on the crank and it popped off. Check the impulse and the coil- it should do the same.

how long since rebuild?could thing just not be broke in good yet?? i had a wd that was that way! but after puting a good load to her and getting her broke in she started fine with the hand crank!

Is the impulse working on the magneto? It should make a definite snap on each compression stroke when you turn it by hand. If it's not working, it will not start with the hand crank.
