I think the biggest problem with the D19, especially diesel, was problems with the head. They cracked!. Some say it was from improper shutdown- not enough cooling time. Never shut down any engine without letting them cool for a minute or so, if you have been pushing them normal. First typed 'hard'- no, any engine should have some cooling time if it is running with a normal load. But I think the D19 was more susceptible to shutting down early. As far as I'm concerned, the D19 was the first really decent tractor Allis put out when the other guys were getting bigger! Finally went to a 34 inch tire, plenty of hp, decent hydraulics and hitch, good weight. Before that, AC was a good tractor for lighter ground, easy to maintain, AFFORDABLE for average farmers. Always a bit light on number of gears, small tires, other features, etc., but a good buy for the average farmer.
