My AC-B left brake started making a "squaking" noise when I apply pressure to stop. It also catches rather than resist when I brake. The right brake is marginal at best when I apply brakes, but it does resist without noise and catching. I looked them over as best I could from up top with cover off and nothing looks unusual. Any ideas what might be the problem with these?
I'm trying to avoid replacing linings as I have read all kinds of horror stories on this forum from others who have had to replace theirs...But then, I do need to stop! Thanks in advance.

The lining is probably shot with the rivits digging into the brake drum. It is not that big of a job to remove the brake lining. It will take a few hours. I have pictures on my site to help you thru it if you decide to do it your self.

Hey Thanks Dick. I was afraid that might be the problem. I'm stopping it with the weak right brake
for now to avoid damage on the left drum. I would appreciate the link or site that you have pictures residing on to do this. I don't have a manual and I could use any insight that I can get.

I drill a 3/8" hole as close to the center of the brake pin as I can. Then drill out to 1/2" withthe drill at an angle to get the hole closer or as close to center as I can. I use a punch after using WD 40 on the pin any where I can get in to spray, and drive the pins out. After the pins and every thing is removed except the brake band I hook my engine hoist to one side of the band, jack up the wheel and rotate the tirs as I raise the lift to let the brake drum help extrct the band. Of course this is after the seat, fenders, all linkage, and seat rails have been removed.

Bigest job will probably be getting the inside clean. When it is full as in this picture I pull the final drive and use a high pressure washer.

More pictures starting at #23. I don't find the ones with the center punch marks. Has to be in another album some where. I will look later for more pictures. I think you can get the idea from this album. If not yell and I will get more pics.

Thanks for the pictures and instructions. If I just replace the linings, will I need to get new pins to re-install the bands? Or is there a common stock rod/pin that I use. Thanks again for your help.
