Any idea why, when the lever is in the center, neutral position that the tractor keeps on going? The high and low range seem to work OK, but the tractor keeps on going when in the middle position unless I have a very heavy load, then it stops. My bush hog will propell the tractor forward with the lever in the middle position and the clutch depressed so there is no way to make a quick stop.

The power director is an oil bath clutch and if the tractor is cold the oil is thick enough to cause enough drag between the clutch plates and cause the tractor to lurch foward. This is very common on the D series trctors and can be stopped by depressing the brake pedal. If not, then the power director needs to be adjusted.

You need to adjust the power director. See the manual.
