Howdy all,
I'm sneaking over here from the Ford boards.
My step dad is having an auction this weekend and selling off all his stuff. He and Mom bought a house in town and don't need all the "stuff" they've accumulated over the years.
He has a 42 Allis B that will be sold and I'm thinking I might bid on it.
It runs real good, doesn't smoke, has fair to good tires and has a 5' Woods belly mower under it. The mower isn't the exact one for this tractor but my step dad is pretty handy and has it working just fine.
He said that about the only problem with the tractor is that the steering gears in the pedestal
are loose but it's not too bad.
I can't attend the auction but was thinking I might call the auctioneer and place a bid on it the day before.
I don't need the durned thing, in fact I need another tractor like I need some extra holes in my skull. But we've all been to auctions before where they practically gave the stuff away and I don't need anyone to steal it from my folks.
We had a B when I was growing up and though I prefer the Fords for puttering around with, them little pumpkin colored rigs are still pretty dear to my heart.
Any of you Orange guys have an idea how much I should bid?

Thanks in advance,
Jerry

I think steve's numbers are certainly in the neighborhood. Some variation depending on paint, tires, sheetmetal, etc., but those are typical for a working model. Where is the sale?

How you been Jim?
I wondered if I'd catch you here.
The sale is near Palisade MN
actually on Lake Waukenabo just south of there.
It isn't really a farm sale. They're selling a couple of boats, a camper, pickup, the contents of a couple of garaqes and the bric a brac from the house. Mom did have a fairly extensive antique bottle collection that will go too. The C and mower are the only tractor related items there.

How's that for weird? Never been there before, but came through last Friday, on the way back from two days on the Range. We remarked at how built-up Palisade was, nice little town. Missed an earlier turnoff by Grand Rapids, and wanted to go along the Mississippi and get to Tamarack to see someone there. Who's the auctioneer, and which day?

If it has "gears in the pedistol" under the radiator, then it is problaby a C. THe B has the steering rod going straight to the left front wheel, arm on king pin. Either way, the tractor is basically $800 and the mower deck depends on quality. If it is a "woods" it might be $500 more. if it is a generic it might be $200. So basically the tractor will bring $900- 1500 depending on who is there and who wants it that day.

Thanks much Steve.

so if I put a bid of about $1200 (which is about all the $ I can spare right now) I would at least be in the ball park and not let someone else steal the thing.
It is a Woods brand mower. Malkes me kind of sad that that is all those ACs are worth. But I've told several folks that one of the best tractors for the money (if you don't need all the 3 point stuff) is an Allis.
I'll post the results on Monday.
