From Bryan Smiths website at Clemson, you have a 1948 engine. You may have an IB, with a replaced transmission case. How is the seat mounted? On a solid bar, or a series of leaf springs linked together? Here is the Engine Casting number info B / C / CA Engine Castings and Year Manufactured
Home Here's something posted by Steve on the Yesterday's Tractors AC discussion board (posted on 1/20/02) that might help identify a tractor year if the serial number on the transmission is missing. This gives the year of manufacture of the engine - some tractors may have been assembled and given tractor serial numbers the following year, but at least this will get you in the ballpark for the year of your tractor. Edited slightly for clarity: If you are sure there is no number stamped (and covered by paint), then the transmission failed in years past and was changed out with a new unit which had no number. If this is the case you can look at the engine behind the distributor for a casting number. It should be a cast number in the form of AM2916 - xx .
