Older tractors don't always produce the HP they are rated at. Of course sometimes they can be made to do even better. You just about have to try it on the specific equipment and conditions to know for sure how it's going to do.

Bob;

Depends on whether it's a Series 1 or Series II. A Series I will pull a 7' haybine ok, but a 9' will set it on fire. In some stuff (Sudex, rank fescue) 9' is all a Series II wants. The Series I (gas) had 40hp at the PTO, the Series II had 46, which is a big difference. And if the Series II isn't weighted, a 9' haybine will tend to push it around a little on hilly ground. And once you get used to the hand clutch to keep the PTO live, you'll throw rocks at anything without one.

The D15 does have a live PTO. If you put the power director in neutral the PTO will continue to run while ground travel will stop. Will it run a 7 or 9 foot mower/conditioner in normal standing hay? Yes, for sure. Will it run one in down tangled stuff..probably but would be a load. Will it run a 12' disc mower at 10 miles per hour? No.
