I am looking at a 1953 CA. Was the CA a very good tractor? What are the bad points of it? It has a wide front with snap coupler. Tires are just fair-have good tread but cracks.for some unknown reason the end of the pto shaft is broke off. Would that cost a lot to fix? Is there anything about the tractor I should look for?

What to look for, well other than the usual, check the shift lever boot, if it is missing or cracked water can get into the transmission. If all works water is not the end of the world, just drain and refill it.

The CA is a very good tractor. I loved to plow with mine pulling a 2-14 snap couple plow in hard clay. If you can do the work your self the power takeoff shaft would not be a big cost. If you can't, I would call your local tractor repair shop and get a quote.
