I have developed a slapping noise at idle with transmission in neutral and power director in neutral. When the foot clutch is pushed down rattling stops. With foot clutch engaged and power director in high or low range, rattling stops. Above idle, rattling or slapping noise goes away. Appears to be in the power director. Everything works fine;i.e., no slippage and smooth shifting. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks

It's normal. Have a 185 and two D17's that do the same thing. It's just some parts in the power director. When turning a little faster, centrifugal force keeps them from moving around and rattling. I don't know exactly what parts it is, but don't worry about it.

Glad to hear that. I was trying to think how to describe the sound in my 180 Dsl and see if anyone had any info but this is exactly what i'm hearing also. Just reworked the clutch and was wondering about that sound that was still there. Thanks, also is it recommended to just use the neutral on the power director to stop and check something or should a person take it out of gear with the clutch?
