I bought a tractor (my first) and the guy who towed it for me said it was an Allis Chalmers WD 45. He seemed to know what he was talking about since he also gave me advice about where to buy parts and local antique tractor shows. The former owner was clueless about what kind it was. However, the serial number does not seem to match the ranges I found on the web. It is 2847Z234E"Triangle symbol" CG. THe number is licated on the left side near the differential.

Is this a WD 45 or some other type? Any help in identifying this tractor would be greatly appreciated.

follow the link (http://home.bluemarble.net/~sensenba/) to see some pics. The serial number might match an A/C IB 1953, but does it???

Roger;

The most obvious ways to identify a WD45 are by the shifter and igniton. All WD45s had a curved shifter handle and all WD45s had a distributor instead of a magneto. While a few late WDs had these traits, most did not. WD45 serial numbers run from #146607-#236958. The serial# is on the rear differential next to the inspection plate. There is a machined pad on the left side. Hope this helps.

There two possibility: 1-The differiential is not the original
2-It is not a WD-45 at all.
Please tell us the engine serial number that is located just at the right of the carb under the hose that connect to the ait cleaner.
If this number starts with 45 it is a WD-45, unless the block has been changed

On the left side of the engine block, I found the number W151561G and on the right side U3019-28 NK.
The tractor has been repainted and all decals were removed. THe tractor looks, to my novice eye, like the A/C tractors I have seen on this site, but I am beginning to think it is not a wd45

Hi Roger, WD eng. # start w/ WD. WD45 start w/45. WC Eng# start w/ W. The # you posted looks like the # from the eng. found behind the carb/air intake hose on the left side of eng. block. Does this tractor have a solid rear cover on the diff, and hand brakes? If it does it should have a pad / TRACTOR NUMBER stamped on topw/WC and number stamped under it on the next row,should be lower than the eng# posted earlier.WD, and WD45 have foot brakes and a cover on the back of the diff cover. The engine from a WC could have been installed also. HTH dan wc ne wyo

It has hand brakes. Not sure what you mean about solid rear cover on differential. The rear cover has a drain plug but ontherwise nothing. The serial number came from a pad on the rounded area where the differential is bolted to the frame--on each sode of differential is the identical number. A local tractor parts guy thinks it is a WC cause of the high seat, the ratchet throttle, the solid wheels.

Hi Roger, that looks like a WC with the wartime steel rearend housing. They were made during 1943 to 1945 approximately. This was a way to save on cast iron during the war, or so I am told, many of the internal parts are the same and the tractors performed the same. Good luck, hth. dan wc ne wyo
