Dana, I would go for it, my IB is in pieces & COULD make patterns for your missing parts. Looks like the seat bracket is missing, A unique piece for the IB only

It would be a job to restore thats for sure! I sold a complete but needed a lot of work IB for $1000 a couple years ago. I bought the one I have restored for $5000 about 4 years ago. I know of a decent one that was unrestored but runs good brought $3600. If it was me and if you were not interested in it I would let the fine fols here know about it so they can try to get it bought. By the way the front axle is correct!

Howdy, Dana
Here is a picture of the IB that I saved from a scrap yard. Haven't started working on it yet, but will soon.
There wasn't too many of these made, around 2500 or so, try to keep as many going as we can.
Do buy it and restore it, if your not interested, Tell us where its at and maybe someone else will save it.

Well it does look like a challange. I would buy it for the IB parts even if you don't get it to run, they are valueable. And the tank looks like it is OK too. The idea of getting a beat B to use for parts is a good one, with the two tractors you could make a IB. If you can get it for any sort of reasonable price it would be a good investment as the IB parts are rare.

The IB has quite a few specific parts. Starting at the front, the radiator shroud (tin) is missing. This piece will be a challenge to fabricate. You can cobble together a standard shroud to work, but it will not be right. The torque tube is the next major item to be sure you have. The IB torque tube is 6 inches shorter than the regular B. I doubt you would be able to have one cast and still have your wallet. There is a specific "toolbox" for the IB as well. On this serial#, the accelerator/govenor linkage goes through the sheet metal. Another fabrication challenge. The steering shaft is also shorter, although you could cut down a std on a lathe. The brake assembly is quite complex, some early WC parts interchange, but you are looking at fab for this as well. The shaft that connects the transmission through the torque tube is also shorter, and a special part number. Fenders can be made from early WC, with some skilled tin and welding work. Brackets would have to be fabbed. The seat assembly would also have to be built, the pan and back are early WC though. The rear hitch would also reqire a lot of metal work to build.

All that being said, the practical person would take all the money they would have to spend and find one in a lot better shape. We are not always rational. If you are a dedicated scrounger, you could probably find the parts you need. It will take a lot of time and money. You shouldn't let the tractor be cut up though, if it is in danger, buy it and someone will help you spread the parts around.

I was through NC this past weekend, and would have loved to pick up the frame for my restoration, as mine was cut off at the front.

If you want more info, email me at my "name" above(without spaces) at hotmail dot com. I can help you with parts diagrams, etc.

Good luck,
Glenn

Hi, Glenn I read your reply today and I went back and took a closer look, the torque tube is there. As is the sheet metal under the fuel tank and the clutch and brake pedals, but I don't see a foot throttle as you mentioned. Do you or does anyone else reading this have detailed pictures of the fenders and their mounting brakets as there was one laying near the tractor, but I'm not sure it is off off this one because there are half a dozen B's dismembered close by. I hope you guys don't mind me picking your brains on this project, I purchased the tractor today going on the fact that ther seems to be interest in parts if nothing else.... still not sure about a restoration but ive got time one my hands... and that AC bug seems to have infected me. Thanks for any info you guys can help me with. Dana

I'm in Indiana this week, and don't have my books with me. I can send you *.pdf files with the diagrams next week. Your best bet would be to buy the Dealer Parts manual from AGCO, which covers the B, IB and C tractors. This will give you exploded diagrams and parts lists for every variation of this machine. It costs about $15. Best money you can spend. I'm glad you bought it, and I hope you can find the rest of the parts. It is a nice little machine. If you go to allis chalmers dot com (string those together) there are lots of people who can help. Please let me know if I can do anything else for you, this is a great hobby....

Glenn

there is a big plate, maybe 3/8 inch thich kind of triangualar shape with two big round studs sticking out of them. they bolt to the final drive cases sticking straight forward. the c-channel toward the motor bolts to these plates. next there is a TEE shaped bar maybe 1/4 inch tich and a foot long that bolts to the brake opening hole and points striaght up. these two plates are the front and rear mounts for the fenders. the fenders are basend on the WD45 with minor stamping differences, but very close. send me your e-mail and i can give you some photos of closeup of the brake and gas pedals and fender mounts. Dana, I don't know what that front end is off of,
it looks homemade. This looks like a disaster. you can probably restore it but the cost would be astronmical. Too bad you're not in Jersey, I know where there's a low ser.No B you could probably get cheap. It's in better shape than that and I wouldn't want to try a restoration on it. Good Luck !
PS the guy has couple of Cs also Rich

sure is a mess. the c-channel and a few other pieces are specific to the IB, they are very hard to find and would be a good purchase. you could probalby get the IB pieces, then buy an old B to get most of the standard stuff and rebuild it that way. The c-channels bolt to a 3/8 plate that is triangualar shaped maybe 15 incehs on a side. the tirangualar plate bolts to the final drive cases and pins to the 1 inch round drawbar holes in the cases. The tractor has WD45 fenders that bolt to this adaptor plate and to the back end of the final drive housing. I see a bar sticking up behind the left brake opening, this support the back of the fender. Where is the torque tube, sheetmetal under the gas tank, footpedals, etc.
