Allis WD Plow setting

Am I a moron? I have my WD set up with the plow on it, and can't get it to go deep enough. I have the adjustment screw all the way in, which I think is right, and it just wont go deeper than 3 or 4 inches, doesn't turn quite enough sod over. Any suggestions?

Colin;

Be sure you have the plow beamed and adjusted to RUN LEVEL when it is in the ground. When raised it should hang cocked down some to the left side, this because the right side of the tractor is lower because of the furrow when plowing. Picture the plow in the ground, not the attitude of the tractor while plowing. Beam the plow so that the bottoms RUN LEVEL. You can check this by observing what kind of track the landside of the rear bottom leaves in the furrow. The landside should leave a distinct, flat track next to the furrow wall. Last, be sure the Traction-Booster is set so that the draft works properly. The Traction-Booster can actually keep the plow from going deep if it isn't set right or locked out at the pump. there is a lot of thing involved in plowing adjustment. try to find if it is a plow problem or a tractor problem.
to know if it is a tractor problem, unhitch the two upper lift arms from the tractor. if the plow is adjust correctly it will plow correctly. if it go down on the ground, the problem is the traction booster working to lift the plow. If not, try to find why your plow don,t go down. good lock

Have you got youre rear tractor tires set right for the plow . The one that runs in the furrow?The right rear one is suppost to be so far from the center of the tractor to the furrow.

Compare the plowshares to new ones. Worn, dull ones will not cut in. If the downward curve is gone on the point of the share, they don't 'suck' in to the ground. Check the nuts on the bolts that hold them on- if they are wearing off, the shares are worn too far.

In addition to the previous good advice, and this is just a remote maybe, have you checked the angle of the upper tractor lift arms? They are spline attachted to the rock shaft. It is possible to change their setting for whatever reason and who knows what might have been done to it over the years.

The shares are new last year, and I only plowed 3 acres with them. It almost seems as if the plow sits differently than it sat on the last WD I had. I got a "new" for me WD this year, and the old one used to bottom right out, this one just won't go.

Definitely has me confused.

Do you have different sized tires on this tractor than the last one- enough to make a difference in plow depth. Have you tried turning the crank the other way? I think, from memory, that you are turning the right way. I have a mounted plow manual in the shop- will check it later. How about the lift arm adjustment, to level the plow when it is in the ground?
