D14 power director

After sitting all winter I find the power director lever no longer directs power correctly. I have to either hold the lever back or hold it forward to get any power - though sometimes the tractor will move s-l-o-w-l-y while the lever is in the middle. What do I do to correct this?

Your set screw inside the tractor may have loosened. or the set screw on the bottom of the lever. Id look at these before pulling anything apart

The PD lever should snap into place, both forward and rearward, to make the tractor go in high range (forward), and low range (rearward). In the middle position you get live power with the pto and hydraulics, and a bit of creeping of the wheels is normal while in the middle position. Slight pressure on the foot brakes should stop motion of the tractor. Operator manual details how to operate the tractor, its controls, lubrication, maintenance, etc.

Yes, I am aware of what it is supposed to do, but my question is, what do I need to do to make it operate correctly? I know it has a problem, but how do I fix it?

If everything is correct with the ouside linkage, I would suspect wear on the internal plates of the clutch. There is an access cover on the right side of the housing. There are shims within the assembly that are removed and relocated to make the adjustment. Unlike the WD, where you remove shims, I think you relocate them to the other side of the assembly. Service manual would have more on that.
