Engine Serial Number

I am hoping someone can help. I have what I believe is a 1957 D14. Is the serial number stamped into the casting or is it on a tag. This is not the first time I have asked this and know one will give me a striaght answer. I have all sheet metal off including the fuel tank, and have sand blasted the bell housing area and I cannot find the serial number anywhere. My problem is I bought this tractor and it did not have a carb on it. I went to the parts store and they said there are 3 different carbs used and I would need a serial number. Is there any way I can use an engine serial number to get the carb. If so where is it located? Thanks for all the help.

the guy that told you to get a serial number to buy a carburetor is an idiot. the basic motor was used for years in various applications. any carburetor witht he correct bolt spacing to connect to the intake manifold could be made to work. Allis had different suppliers and different models of carb, but they all work on the motor. I would guess i you had a carb off a John Deere it would work if you had the right bolt pattern.

STEVE DIFFERENT MODELS MAY HAVE HAD SIMLAR LOOKING CARBS BUT THE JETS ARE DIFFERENT SIZES. IF YOU HAVE A MANUAL IT WILL GIVE YOU SIZES IF JETS. A B CARB MAY FIT A D14 BUT WILL NOT SUPPLY THE CORRECT AMOUNT OF FUEL. BOB

Bob, the parts guy told him he had 3 different carbs for the D14. If he does, my point is any will work independant of the serial number. Yes, a random carb might fit and have the wrong jet, but will startup and rev up, maybe not to full throttle. But could be made to work. My point is a 150 cubic inch engine is a 150 cubic inch engine and any carb rated for that size displacement will be very close.

Where the torque tube meets the engine on the left side. Just forward of the fuel bowl.
