YTers,

Any general advice on a D14? Dad has a chance to buy one for a reasonable price. Are parts available, are they reliable, is there a big following for these tractors?

The D14 is a great little tractor. Just a couple of things to look for; thoroughly check 3rd gear (4th/6th with the hand clutch) for noise--this is the most used gear and people tend to jam it when switching gears. 3rd gear is the weak link in the D-Series tractors. Also, be sure hi-range in the hand clutch won't pop out of engagement when the oil is cold. That indicates a lot of wear. Good luck! Hope this helps.

I have a 1960 D-14 that has proven very reliable and rugged. Mr. Danforth is correct. The greatest concern would be the tranny. Make sure it does not jump out of 3rd when you are going down a incline. Some have a problem with that. It is a nuisance more than anything.

Our D-14 has never had 3rd in all the years Dad has owned it, and we don't even notice, that's due to the fact that 2high and 4low will cover any situation, and 3rd isn't even missed. Even missing a whole gear it is one of the most versatle and strongest tractors pound for pound we have. Enjoy!

I have a D-14 and a D-17. My D-14 hasn't had a problem so I haven't needed any parts. I use it for baling hay, shredding grass. My D-17 needed a fair amount of work when I got it. I was always able to find all parts I needed. AGCO Allis had everything but I often found lower prices elsewhere. They are both great tractors.

Great tractor! My dad has had one for 30 odd years and he has never had to do anything to it. It is amazing what it will do, for it's size there is nothing it won't do, lift, or run. We use it to run the haybine all summer and plow and spread manure all winter. Make sure the hi low range works though, that's it's biggest asset, especially with the haybine

Good tractor. Make sure the transmission hasn't been abused, so that it doesn't jump out of gear.
