seems to run somewhat allright at an idle, but at high speed it acts like it needs a set of plugs, also the idle jet has to allmost be in all the way for it to run a little better, it has electronic ignition could that be the problem or does it either run or not run with the electronic ignition it all of a sudden started doing this has allways ran alittle uneasy unless you pull the choke out a little.
thanks Pete

I have had this problem lately with my 48 WD. I found a fuse in the instrument panel that was blown. It was cutting power to my coil. In addition to running grossly underpowered, it was not charging my battery. Before I did anything else, I would check that fuse. There are three of them in the panel. Just take a test light and bridge across them.

Sounds like the carburator needs to be thoroughly cleaned, maybe a rebuild. I think it is starving for gas, you may have some crud in the jets. Also, does it have Champion plugs? If so: pull them, walk over to your neighbor's fence, and throw them as far as you can away from you. I have had more trouble with Champion plugs than you can shake a stick at - they always run with an erratic miss. Sometimes (if you're lucky) they will clear up after the motor gets up to temperature, but that is about the best you can hope for. A good set of AC Delco plugs are hard to beat in those old engines. But, definitely, check out that carburator. I think that will probably solve your problem. Good luck!

Pete,

I agree with Dale. Sounds like it could be a fuel delivery problem, or the carb needs some attention. Spark plugs will also cause a miss at high or low speeds. Autolite 295's usually are the ticket for some good fire in the hole. Crank a new set of plugs in it first and see how she runs. If it's still the same, start at the sediment bulb, and work your way forward inspecting the fuel system. She may be running lean upstairs at higher rpm due to a blockage. We have plugs in stock and also service and rebuild carbs if you need any help. Good Luck! You'll find the problem....
