d-17 hydraulics

Have a 1961 d-17 diesel. Bought a small round baler with manual tie (vermeer 600a). It only has one line going to and one from the cylinders. My tractor only has a 1/2 or 3/4 plug and knob on left and behind the seat. What else do I need to make this puppies work together?

Any advice is appreciated.

If you have one going to the cylinders, and one line coming back, you have two-way cylinders, and need a two-way hydraulic setup. Your '61 came with a one-way system. That system can power a two-way valve with a return line. With the one-way, you have power out, which can feed a two-way valve. The return line needs to dump back into the hydraulic resevoir. To activate the two-way system, the factory valve needs to be locked into 'lift', and then you can run the other valve. The quadrant on the D17 has a notch to lock the lever into place. When you don't need the other system, unlock the valve so you don't overheat the integral hydraulic system. It was not built to be run full-time.

A-C's up til about 1964 (series IV D-17) had high pressure, low volume set-up. Hence, you might need an AC cylinder or you'll blow hoses etc.

Blowing the hoses will not be a problem if you get a 4 way (for double acting cylinders) valve with a built in releif valve.
