had crankshaft turned new cam bearing when engine is hot at idle just registers on N of normal. still have old style filter is it possible camshaft bad?

Hi

I run a few wd's , that old oil pressure. Well I run STP in my tractors. Use the cheaper type from Walmart. Use there Non-det. 30 oil.

The only thing is in the winter It is too thick to start. Below 20 . Watch if your on a hill going down or across with the right side on the high side. Have to have it full or over full to keep oil pressure. Pick up for the pump is at the wrong angle.

Hi, Sam. are you sure the old style filter is the correct style filter, and the filter element tube is stii lntact? Have you checked to see if the bolt by the dipstick is correctly shimmed? Might be worth checking these little things if you havent already before you tear her down again. Shane
The filter I replaced on the wd I just redid was from 83 and it still was the wrong style. Just a thought.

I went and purchace a new filter form allis wouldn't believe it but now have great pressure. Now it runs on r hot at idle and on a wide open. I wasted alot of time but know Dad is happy supose it was worth it. Thanks Sam

Glad to hear it, its amazing how bad a little thing like that filter can throw everything off, cant believe some companies still produce the wrong one and label it for Allis.

thanks for imput tried another gauge off another allis reads the same even tried another oil pump. I check the cork in the rocker shaft and tried another spring and valve in the regulator. tractor register on r or a little below wide open. seems like I have check every thing but I didn't measure journals on cam. Just seems like n or little below at idle hot is low for new bearing and crank turn.

You might try installing a 0-15 psi gage and see what it reads. I did a check of my gage in a lab with a hydraulic dead weight gage tester and found that the O= 6 psi, the R= 9 psi, and the M= 12 psi.. I wished now that I had checked the entire scale. The operators manual says the needle should be on the O,R,or M when in use.

With the pointer aimed at N in normal, with a hot engine and at idle speed, you have around 5 pounds of oil pressure. When you rev the engine up the oil gauge should read somewhere around the R or M in normal. Each letter in normal equals 5 pound oil pressure. The IT manual says normal oil pressure is 15 pounds.
