Would like info on your tractor s/n when you find it. I have seen several Thompson UCs with higher S/N than listed. On discussion with a former Thompson employee, I was told there were a lot of refurbished UC's that were ground off and restamped with a 5 digit number - generally with a TUC prefix and first 2 digits were year - i.e. TUC63215 is 215th tractor of 1963 (yes they were being sold in 1963 - I have seen 2 in that series) - and I'm trying to figure out when the 3 digit part was 001. Best. Ed

P.S. Let me know if anyone has a good source of 6.00-21 front tractor tires (not truck tires)

I have a Thompson UC that I use regularly in south Louisiana. My tires blew so I had no choice but to find something to replace them with. The only thing that fits is the 21" Model A tires. They arent heavy duty but they work.

ED, I have seen many gas UC's with both numbers on them, they had the original UC serial number and the Thomson refurb number. I have two of the UCD's, one with a 2-71 detroit and the other has a 3-53 detroit. Both of the diesels have only the Thomson build number on them, the UCD's with the detroit's were built out of a lot of 75 rear ends that Thomson had left over when A-C stopped production of the UC and the UC gas motor was discontinued so they built them up with D17 gas and LP, a couple with the D17 diesel, and the rest with the detroits. I was just thinking while eating breakfast that I have seen both printed info and an actual tractor with a 2-71 that was built in 54 so I guess they were playing with them long before the UC gas motor was gone but from what I have been told the most were built after there were no more gas motors. As for 21" front tires Miller was going to make some recap tri-ribs using the 21" road tread tires that they sell but I don't think they were going to be cheap, I could use a set also but can't bring myself to spend the big bucks until one of mine blows up and I can't drive my tractor anymore. Scott, The serial # is just to the left of where the PTO would come out or where it comes out, looking at the back of the tractor it is in the top left corner of the surface that the PTO bolts to. I believe I met you at Lester Prejeant's house a few years ago, I sent you some info on the Antique Power Magazine. e-mail me direct and we can talk about UC's
