Hello, I am restoring an Allis G. This sounds like a strange request, but I need to know the correct length of the pipe coming out the top of the air breather housing (the straight pipe extending out the top of the hood). For whatever reason, this pipe has been extended before we got this tractor. I want to cut it down to the proper length. Currently it measures 22 inches tall measured from the top of the breather housing upward not including the cap. I know this has to be too tall for it, so any response will be appreciated. Thank you.

The height is not critical as long as it has clearance under the hood to take in air. It does not extend thru the hood and there should be no hole in the hood. If you still need exact measurements repost and I will measure mine in the morning--Jack

you are exactly right, I have a restored G and an orginal operaters manuel. The stack through the hood was an option! Tell that one person he does not know what he is talking about. It had three braces down to the hood also.

Allis sold an air cleaner extention that had two braces and came through the hood, would be a nice (and rare) option to have! I'm posting a picture out of my partsbook of what it look s like in "parts & pieces".

I agree with Joe. There was an optional air cleaner pipe that I think came up thru the hood. If this is one of them, they are probably very rare. Den

Hi guys, thanks for the comments thus far. Joe, thanks for the picture of the extension. However, this makes me more convinced that mine is not original. I don't have the braces and mine is welded directly to the air cleaner housing (it's not connected with a rubber hose as indicated in the picture). So that brings me back to needing the length. I don't have the hood on it or the back panel to judge my height from (all in pieces). Also, I was wondering if the pipe is supposed to have a cap at the top of it, or is it open since it would be protected by the hood?

Dean, see another picture in "Parts & Pieces"
There is no cap and the pipe should be 1 inch tall

Thanks again Joe. That shows me exactly what I need to know. Now I have a hole to weld a patch in. Getting pretty good at that though. I had to patch another hole in the hood where someone had run an exhaust pipe straight out the top of the manifold. Even had to braze a modified street 'L' to the manifold in order for the exhaust to come out the side like it should. Thanks.
