Just got my Allis D17 last fall. Never had an AC before. Only a Ford 8N. Question - To plow with a snap coupler plow (3Bt.pick up plow), can I plow just a little ways and when I've got the plow at a good depth, and the tractor is pulling it fine, can I then set the Traction Booster lever at a position that just starts to raise the plow, then leave the T.B. lever set at that point, and simply raise the plow at the end of the run, make my turn and lower the plow back down for my next pass? I'm hoping that this is the way it's supposed to work and that I won't have to keep raising and lowering the lift lever when I hear / feel the tractor bogging down.

Sounds like you did just fine to me. Once set leave the booster lever alone and use the lift lower lever as you have been. The two lever system was an improvment over the WDs and 45s that had both functions on one lever. If all the wear parts are as new, there is no slop in the hitching points and the slip heal is correctly adjusted a person can transfer a lot of weight from the plow to the tractor without lifting it out of the ground whatsoever. With some slop and a bit worn parts it will lift it an inch or more. Assuming that everthing is not new you should set the plow depth with the boost off an inch or so deeper than you want to plow then set the booster lever to bring to depth in average pulling. The plow depth is set with the beaming crank on top, right is deeper. The gauge is fun to watch work for a round or so but soon you will forget about it. Set the boost lever where it works well in your situation, whether that is running the gauge all the way to the right, or barely moving the needle is not realy material.

Gauge is stuck in one position. Know where I can get a good one. I need other gauges replaced too -Gas & Temperature.

Some of the D-series gauges are availible from AGCO although I am not sure if they have authentic faces (if that matters) The traction booster gauge is very pricey, it and other gauges with the correct faces for your tractor are availible but I cant post the vender here or my post will be deleted. E-mail for info.

Can you email me with the name of the vendor source with the correct face gauges for the D17?

Thanks!

Get your plow set up and adjusted correctly then set your traction booster lever until the needle on the traction booster gauge is about straight up and down (maybe a little less than straight up and down). If you watch the gauge while plowing you will see the needle move back and forth as the traction booster system works. Once set, you don't need to move the lever.
