Is the mag to trip when the fire mark is in the center of the hole on the side of the bell housing. mine mag doesn't trip until after it goes past the fire mark, an trips when the TDC mark is just in veiw of the top of the hole. I'll be very thankful for any help.

There's been a lot of posts about mag timing lately. If you don't want to take the cap off the mag, use a timing light connected to #1 plug and at idle you should see fire when the light flashes. Otherwise take the cap off the mag and #1 plug out. Put your finger over the hole and have someone crank the engine until you feel presure on your finger. Turn just until you see tDC come up in the middle of the inspection hole. There's a timing post near the #1 plug contact that the rotor should point to. Adjust your mag to that.

I hope I got that right.
