ALLIS CHALMERS - B DOUBLE STUCK

I HAVE A ALLIS CHALMERS "B" THAT HAS A STUCK MOTOR AND ONE STUCK REAR WHEEL BUT BELIEVE IT OR NOT THE TRACTOR LOOKS GOOD. JUST SAT SO LONG THAT SHE'S DOUBLE STUCK. THE ENGINE , I'M ALREADY TO PULL THE HEAD OFF AND TAKE A LOOK UNDER THAT TO SEE WHAT'S NEXT ON THE MOTOR PART BUT THE REAR WHEEL I WAS HOPEING TO SNEAK UP ON THAT PART OF IT AND SOME HOW TRY TO BREAK THE REAR WHEEL LOOSE. THE TRANSMISSION IS IN NETURAL. I HAD TWO STUCK REAR WHEELS BUT WHEN I PULLED IT OUT OF THE BARN THE RIGHT REAR WHEEL STARTED TO ROLL BUT THE LEFT REAR WON'T GIVE IT UP AND ROLL . I'VE GOT THE TRACTOR ALMOST HANGING FROM MY SHOPS ROOF BY THE REAR WHEEL WITH THE CHAIN HOOKED ON THE BOTTOM SIDE OF THE WHEEL SO IT WILL BE PULLING UP ON THE CHAIN SO THE WEIGHT OF THE TRACTOR HANGING FROM THE SHOP MIGHT BREAK THE WHEEL LOOSE BUT IT AIN'T HAPPENING. ANY BODY GOT ANY TRICKS. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME SCOTTY

You probably don't have water in the transmission if the boot on the shift lever is good. ALWAYS keep a good boot on the shift lever, but especially if the tractor ever sees rain or snow.

Had a stuck engine and the tires slid rather than turn. You ask if there could be a connection. The connection on this one at the link below was both had been full of water. The brake band on yours probly is rusted fast but water can get into the transmission as well and cause things to lock up.

WOW! THAT LOOKS NASTY..GREAT PICTURES. HOPE THAT AIN'T MY CASE BUT IF I PULL THE WHOLE LEFT SIDE CHUNK AND THE CHUNK TURNS THEN THAT MAY BE THE ANSWER. THE SHIFTER SHIFTS VERY CLEAN AND SMOOTH BUT .....MAN I HOPE I DON'T HAVE A TRANS THAT LOOKS LIKE THAT..THANKS

It's an easy thing to pull the PTO housing off. Take a look in the rear end and see if something's set up in there.

THANKS I WILL DO THAT . THE PTO SPINS SMOOTH AND IT HAS A PTO BIG BELT PULLEY THAT SPINS FREE ALSO. BUT WILL PULL THE COVER TO TAKE A LOOK..THANKS SCOTTY

TO FREE UP THE BRAKE, SPRAY WITH PENETRATING FLUID AND ROCK TRACTOR BACK AND FORTH. DO THIS EVERY DAY AND IT WILL COME FREE.BOB

most likely the brake band. take the rod or arm off that side from the pedal and then remove the sheetmetal hump cover. pry around with a screw driver, maybe spray with penetrant. you should be able to move the cam arm back and forth that tightenes the band. also there is a screw in the middle with a big screw driver slop. loosen it way up, maybe remove it.---- after you remove the head, check the valves in addition to the pistons.

THANKS STEVE, I AM GOING TO TRY THAT. I HAVE THE BRAKE ROD OFF AND THE TIN COVER OFF AND HAVE BEEN SPRAYING PB BLASTER ALL DOWN IN THERE BUT I'VE NOT TRIED TO BACK OUT THE BAND ADJUSTING SCREW . DO YOU THINK CAN I MANAGE TO GET ONE OF THE PINS OUT THAT HOLD THE BAND ON ? THANKS FOR YOUR HELP STEVE AND I'M GOING TO GIVE THIS A TRY

Hey Scotty, just in case you've got an early B, you won't find the clip Steve is talking about but pins that go through the top of the housing where you took the top covers off. Wire brush under that cover to find them. I didn't know they were there and tried to pound the pin out, cracked the housing. Not really a problem. Have new style pins with the "hair pin" clips.

THANKS CHARLIE, I MUST HAVE THE LATER STYLE BECAUSE I SEE THE PIN AND THE CLIP BUT I HAVEN'T TAKEN THEM OUT YET BECAUSE I CAN WIGGLE THE WHEEL AND LOOK DOWN INTO THE BAND AND SEE THE DRUM MOVE INSIDE THE BAND AS MUCH AS I CAN GET THE WHEEL TO WIGGLE BUT IT'S NOT MUCH I HAVE ALSO LOOSEN THE BAND ADJUSTER SCREW ALL THE WAY LOOSE. I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY I CAN WIGGLE THE WHEEL ALITTLE AND SEE THE DRUM MOVE INSIDE THE BAND ALITTLE BUT JUST WON'T GIVE IT UP. COULD THE MOTOR BEING STUCK AND THE WHEEL BEING STUCK HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH EACH OTHER? DO YOU KNOW OF A GOOD PINCH POINT THAT I CAN GET TO TO HELP TRY TURN THE MOTOR ? THANKS FOR YOUR HELP!

there is a c clip between the brake band and the housing on the pin, keeping it from moving. pull the C-clip, then see if the bore for the pin goes thru the other side toward the center of the tractor. should have been partly thry. punch the pin from the inside, outward. probably have to "spray" them also. dont come easy. if you get one pin out, the brakes should be loose. probably lots of crude, mouse nest, and oil leakgage around the brake band to dig out.

SHOULD I REMOVE THE LOWER COVER PAN AND TAKE A LOOK OR WAIT ON THAT ? I HAVE TAKEN THE HEAD OFF AND CLEANED UP THE CYL. WITH A HONE BUT TWO ARE ALL THE WAY UP AND TWO ARE ALL THE WAY DOWN SO I'M GOING TO SOAK AND GIVE A SMACK FOR AWHILE HOPEING THAT WILL FREE THE MOTOR UP. IS THERE ANY GOOD PINCH POINT I CAN GET TO SO I CAN TRY TO TURN THE CRANK ? ALSO DO YOU THINK THE MOTOR BEING STUCK AND THE WHEEL BEING STUCK HAVE ANY CONNECTION ? THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP AND ANSWERING ALL THESE QUESTIONS SCOTTY
