Allis G head stuck

I am trying to remove the head off my G, and it seems to be stuck on the studs front and rear. Short of drilling out the studs, any suggestions? Why did they not use a bolt like the rest of them? If I do crank the studs out, can I use bolts instead? Thanks!!

The studs are how you fasten the fan assembly to the head. They should not be what is holding the head down, but why not just take a pair of vice grips and turn them out to make sure. If you are doing a complete overhaul you will want to remove them anyway.

Those studs do hold the brackets for the fan shaft, but they are also holding the head, my manual specifies torque on them. Vice grips will not do the job.

Pictures 46 and 48 are two different engines. The studs were taken out of both with vice grips with out any problems. If the vice grips slip then a small pipe wrench should give you the extra torque to turn them out. Make sure that what ever you use keep the tool as close to the head as possible. The engine in pic 48 was out side and rusty when I picked it up.

After all was said and done, they did come out, having been stuck in the head, not the block. They will now need to be replaced by new ones, but the head is off! What a load of carbon in there, but the cylinders look OK,( not a huge ridge, or scoring). Thanks!

Those N62's without water pumps, when the water gets low, will over heat and the rings lose their tention and will cause bypass. A lot of times with out much run time or wear. If cought soon enough a new set of rins is all they need. You should be able to get the studs at NAPA.
