Hydraulic Ram with Piston Pump

My neighbor purchased a beater AC disc that is minus the hydraulic ram. I have a D17 that we would like to use with the disc and I need advice on how to equip it with a ram that will work with the hi-pressure low volume pump. The tractor is equipped with only ONE HYDRAULIC OIL PORT that is used for auxilliary equipment. What kind of ram would I purchase because there isn't a return to tank line with the tractor's hydraulic system?

you can buy one way cylinders. basically you put oil in one end to extend the cylinder and the other end is vented or open to atmosphere. you put your valve back in "float" and the weight of the disc dropping pushes the oil out of the cylinder and back to the tractor. you can use any old cylinder if you have one handy. put a hose on the end that is anchored, and remove the hose on the rod end. get a littel plastic breather "vent" or a small screw in gasoline filter for a carburetor and put it in the hole to keep the air going in and out clean. you are right, your tractor can buildup a lot of pressure. any cylinder will problaby be good for 2500 psi. just dont raise it full up and hold it there stalling out the pump to reliev pressure. bumping it to 3000 every now and then is not a problem. the one hose on the tractor goes to the bottom end of the cylinder.

Steve, I appreciate the information! I will make trip to Farm & Barn in the AM to pick up a ram that has the correct stroke. Gotta get that ground worked for Sweet Corn Patch.
