I own a 1947 model B that misfires, spits and sputters under a heavy load. I can disc a field with a 6ft tandem disc and the gangs turned at an angle along with cinder blocks in the weight trays. However, when I add more weight to the disc the tractor will start the misfire. Also, the same thing happens when I try using a rotary mower in 2nd gear. It sounds like one of the cylinders is not firing. The magneto has been rebuilt. Does anyones have any suggestions as to what may be causing this? Thanks in advance.

Could be a sparkplug, or the cap, but I know that if there is ANY water what so ever in the sediment bowl of my WD, it will have that same miss...!!! I guess you are sure the valves are set properly.?? Heavier loads require a richer setting on the power screw also..

You maybe running it to lean on the carb setting or just plan over working it. Its only a 22HP tractor. You could also have a weak cylinder.

we have also had trouble with the fuel line collapsing causing a shortage of fuel under a load, just a suggestion.

If it runs fine except under heavy load - you have a fuel supply problem. Bet the sediment bowl or the sediment bowl supply from the fuel tank is almost blocked. Had the same problem with Dad's WD years ago. We overhauled the engine and put on a new magneto - all the time it was sediment in the fuel tank that block full fuel flow under full load. Good luck
