Well since everybody's lookin for mag answers. I need to know how to get the drive that meshes with the govenor off. One of the springs that push the impulse levers out is either disconnected or broke. Sometimes it misses jamming itself against that screw to make it load up and jump.

And thanks to Duey for all the info on his site. The label on the fiber gear was mostly gone, especially the a and c mark. I counted teeth from the Y in properly to find the right teeth to mesh.

CH,
In order to remove the impulse coupler assy, you need a puller with a real thin set of jaws to get down between the coupler and the housing. I had to combine two different types of pullers years back to make one work. The spring may not be broken though. Dirt and grit get in the cams sometimes, and either slows down or stops the cams from coming out centrifically. Once you do get the coupler assy off, wash it out with parts cleaner or Brakekleen and spray a little dry graphite on the cam plate. This doesn't attract dirt or oil again to keep the cams working correctly. If it turns out that you do have a spring broken, or one of the cam pawls worn, we can help you out with a cam plate assy or a pawl. Drop us a line if ya need any more help. BTW- when disassembling the impulse coupler assy, be careful of the coil spring. They're loaded and they can bite ya! We rebuild & service magneto's, distributors, carbs, starters, Alternators and generators. Good Luck! HTH.
