Front seal leak on a model B

I have a 47 model b, that has a small leak around, I think, the front seal. It drips around the front wishbone axle. It is a small leak that only acts up once I start the tractor. The front seal has been replaced, but the motor still leaks. Should I be concerned with this small leak or is this typical of older tractors? I purchased some Seal Lube. Does anyone know if this stuff actually works or was I sold a bill of goods. It supposedly stops oil leaks on engines that have rubber oil seals. I am not sure if the b has rubber seals. Thanks for anyones help in advance

Hi Tom,

Forget the "Seal Lube". I am not a promoter of quick fixes. I don't know about the '47 and later but the earlier Bs had a cork seal and not rubber. In fact the earlier ones with that cork seal had a grooved crankshaft up front and a replacement rubber lip seal could not be used unless you applied a "speedi- sleeve" stainless steel sleeve to provide a smooth surface for the rubber lip to run on. If you want the correct fix, I would guess the front cover has to come off, an evaluation made of what you have and a new seal of some type installed. I did that to my '42B a few years back. At the time I just replaced the cork seal. I wished now I had gone the speedi-sleeve route with a rubber lip seal though. Oh well, maybe next time. At least it's not leaking now.
