D-14 Generator

I have a D-14 that has run and charged fine until about a week ago. The meter shows a drain when the lights are switched on, but no charge like it used to. I disconnected the wires from the 12v (I'm pretty sure it's a generator - it has brushes) and checked it while running - No charge. Would this just go out like that?

ground the "F" terminal to the frame. (take the two wires off the generator terminals). start the tractor and measure the voltage between the "A" and "F" terminals. should be 15-20 volts. if it is charging, the voltage regulator is probalby bad. if it is not charging, the brushes inside proabably need replaced and the armature checked.
