I just bought a 1951 Allis-Chalmers CA, anyone on here try pulling one? What weight class, and what all was needed to make it a decent puller? Thanks!

I pull a stock wide-front 1950 "C". This tractor was very competitive @2500 lbs. It now has ballasted 11.4x24 rear tires & front engine weights & dominates the 3000 lb. class. Just get your CA running well & you can be competitive in classes between 2500 & 3250. I'm in way over my head @ 3500. Do it & have fun!

I pull a 41 C. I have won the 3500 against some wc's in the 275ci range. Rebuild the motor and head take about .040 taken off of the head, brought the motor really alive.

I have a c-a that I've pulled some-what. I took 28" wheels from an old W-C, made an adaptor plate and put 14.9x28" tires on it Pulled in 3000&3500 pound class and was always in the top 3 out of about ten or more tractors. It is a lot of fun and is easy to transport up and down the road. Be sure to put wheelie bars on because they will not give out of power in 3&3500 class. Check the rules in your class as to what you can do with tire size, etc. Also check the rules on the draw bar location . Around 21" from the ground works good if they will allow it and the closer to the rear axle the better,[most tracks have a minimum lenth distance].I made a weight bracket for the front and rear and usually ran about 75 to 100 lbs on the front and the rest on the rear to make up the weight class. I had a CA and it would not pull at all--the hand clutch slips. This is a very-very difficult problem to correct and the best way is to take the hand clutch out completely and put in a straight shaft---it will pull then. Probably in the 3,000 pound class. The other guys who responded to your question had "C" Allis, a cpompletely different animal from a CA.
