I have a 1940 C. I would like to use it for mowing about two acres of grass around the house. Do I go with a belly mower or a pull behind? Is there a brand name that gives you more mower for the money. On a C does a five or six footer work better? Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Woods L59 under my 41C is an awsome finishing mower. I was mowing a two acre lawn, up until two years ago, in about a half hour. Does a real nice job. My uncle is planning to use it to keep a meadow mowed this spring. Good Luck, Jim

Woods makes or made two different types of mowers that would work under your C. One is a three blade finish mower, the other one had just a single spindel with two half blades, much like a stock chopper/bush hog. I have seen this one used to mow lawns as well.

If it were me I would go with a belly mower for the lawn around the house. You can get alot closer to things with a belly mower. as far as size we used to pull a 5' brush hog to mow my parents field. we would cut 2.5' grass to about 8-10" depending on how dry the grass was we might be able to get into 2nd gear usually I ended up using 1st and it worked great. I think a 6' mower may be too big unless you keep the grass short which you would on a lawn. AJ
