CA oil pressure filters

I stopped at the New Holland dealership this morning on my way to school and got a AGCO #70240912 filter. Once I got home, dad and I got to looking at the ACGO filter and the Napa #1101 filter and they seemed to have almost the same number and sized holes. We put the AGCO filter on the CA, started it, and it still showed the same oil pressure. Does anyone have any ideas as to what we need to try now? Thanks in advance.

Dan, It could be several things. Might put a glass mason jar in place of the filter temporarily and see whats happening at the tip of the filter stand pipe. Could be bad guage. Could be bad clearances in the pump or in cam bearings.Could be bad springs in the pump blades. Might crack open some fittings and see if you are getting oil to various places.Might also remove valve cover and see if you are oiling there.(I've seen several engines with the wrong stud in the valve rocker arm assemble, probally so they could be sold and not be burning oil.) Also like someone said check the filter stand pipe not driven down to far. Just some ideas. Dale

Dan,
We sell the Fram C159's to our customers and they have no oil pressure problems at all. I use em' on my own machine also. We still have our filter special running yet. We have plenty of filters in stock. Drop us a line if interested. Be glad to help ya out...

I have a case of the correct filters[fleetguard brand]and would be happy to sell/ship you one.
I am also sure that the oil filter is the problem
as long as your oil press. regulator is not stuck.

Dan, verify what the internal filter looks like as Tom said. Next, i guess we dont know if there realy is a problem, since the motor was in pieces and then reassembled. It could have a little clearance in the cam bearings and that would drop the pressure. The pump could have worn springs on the vanes and that could drop the pressure. There is a plug and spring in the front end of the cam shaft that is somewhat of a restriction in the oil flow thru cam. Is it in place? Last of all, there are quite a few old B and C tractors running around with only a coupe pounds of pressure. Not a good feeling, but they still run. If i was real interested i would pull the filter, pull the 1/4 inch dowel, and make sure it was not pushed in too far and plugging the gauge port. If not,i would put a solid rod in the hole. Install the filter and restart. Now nothing is going to the filter and back to sump. You should have extra pressure to the gauge and more oil internal spraying on the crank. Might tell you something. LIke i said it could be the cam bearings or pump and that would be a little difficult to fix. If you have oil to the top end, that is some comfort.

Yeah Steve, I know they will run with little or no pressure. As a kid working an a farm we had a B that had seen a LOT of hard use, was on the second rebuild, and almost ready for the third. Anyway, when it was hot in the summer it had basically no oil pressure, a little when starting cold, and it ran thousands ofhours that way, some of them torture on that ltiile tractor too. We just made sure it always had oil and kept it changed when it was time. Steve has good thoughts on what to check though, and as he says if you are getting oil to the top it can't be too bad.

Does the new filter have a flat metal plate in the bottom with perforations in it with cloth/cloth waste visible above it and did it have a wood dowell in the center that had to remove to put the filter on? They could have the wrong filter in the right box. Your number is good, I have one right here on my desk with that no. and it is the right filter.

The AGCO filter had the perforations with the cloth/cloth waste, but it didn't have a wooden dowell. They said it should be the right filter for a CA. The part # is the same on the filter and the box it came in.

When this problem w/ filters surfaced a couple of years ago AGCO did source some filters from the same vendor as NAPA. The 1101 NAPA & your AGCO filter are the problem design. I'm sure that you still have the wrong type of filter. If it has a conccave bottom w/ pleated paper filter media instead of a wool type filter you have an AGCO filter that has been on the self for a while. AGCO has since changed suppliers. Keep going, I'm sure the proper filter will fix this problem!

should the correct filter have the wood dowel pin? does the wood dowel pin have to be removed to install the filter or do i leave the dowel in and then put the filter on im having the same filter problem on my c. jason

The wood dowell just keeps the hole in the cloth/rag waste open so when you go to put it on the filter it is easier. Remove it just before you go to install the filter. Put the filter on in such a way the tube sticking up out of the filter base goes into the hole left from removing the dowell. The filter should go on straight and when the screw threads get to the threads in the base they should be in line and ready to screw together. Hand tight is enough.
