I have a 44 C with the wide front end. The front axle has been patched several times to be attached to the tractor. I ground all the bad stuff away and now have a bare beam.
I know there is supposed to be a pin through the front plate to the beam to hold it in place, yet allow it to swivel. What does the piece on the beam the pin goes through look like? I see a half circle under the front plate, in front of the steering gear. Does the piece on the beam fit into this half circle? Would someone try to explain or can I get pictures sent to me?

Richard, I'm also tinkering with a C wide front. Mine has been welded too, but I think it is close to original. The pivot pin is welded to the top of the axle beam. It is 7/8 of an inch in diameter and about 2 1/2 inches long. It overlaps the axle beam by about 1 1/2 inches and extends about one inch in front of the beam and fits in the hole in the front plate. The back end of the pin is ground off on top at an angle( I think this is to avoid rubbing on the bearing carriier). I could e-mail a picture.

You give a good description. I can understand the way it sets. Yes, the bevel probably is to protect the steering gear. I had a piece of rebar welded on top and it started wearing into the gear housing.
Thanks for the help.
